Street Photography – Olympus OM-D EM-5; 24

This is going to be the last street photography set taken on the street’s of my home city of Cardiff for a short while, not because I don’t have lots more because I do, but because I have quite a few taken in Berlin from my trip there last weekend. As usual all taken on my Olympus OM-D EM-5 with Panasonic Leica Summilux 25mm 1.4 lens, so enjoy these and next time around we’ll have something a bit different.

Cans In A Row.jpg ISO 200, F4, 1/250th Sec. A few can’s stuck upside down on some spiked railing’s, not much else here but I liked how this act of littering had caused a nice pattern of repetition that in itself broke up the repetition of the railings.

Coffee Shop 2.jpg ISO 800, F2, 1/100th Sec. I took this without looking and shot from the hip, with that said I’m pleased how the man is almost exactly in the centre of the wording on the window behind him and also with how contrasty this has come out with the backlit window and dark foreground of the coffee shop itself. That said I mainly took this as I was impressed by his ability to carry three empty cups of coffee at once.

Coffee Shop.jpg ISO 800, F2, 1/160th Sec. This was not shot from the hip and hence why it’s turned out a lot more composed than the last one, although that had it’s merits. I like how the guy on his phone is framed by all the surrounding clutter around him, the lamp and wall, the black pillar, the window framing him, the chair in front framing him from below. I like this.

Crouched.jpg ISO 200, F4, 1/1600th Sec. This is not my typical street shot as this is actually my girlfriend, however she stopped while we were walking through town to look for something in her bag and I turned around and saw an opportunity. I like the lines painted on the row curving around and forcing your eye down to the bottom third of the image and also the very light wall contrasting with her dark clothing and prominent shadow.

Damp Street.jpg ISO 400, F4, 1/1250th Sec. I really wish there had been only the central man in this image as I feel it would’ve worked so much better with a lone figure walking down the freshly washed and damp street, but hey I think it’s a nice image anyway.
