Welcome to the eighty third edition of my street photograph series using my Olympus OM-D EM-5, as always all imags are with either a 17mm M.Zuiko or 25mm Panasonic Leica Summilux lens and these are taken on the streets of Cardiff. Enjoy and feel free to comment.
25mm, ISO 400, f28, 1/4000th sec. There was great light this day, hence the crazy high shutter speed despite the aperture being fairly wide, and thus great, strong, bold shadows, just the kind I like. I waited for a while after seeing this curving shadow of the fencing along the river and the flagpoles for the right person to be in the frame, this isn’t a super busy walk way but also isn’t deserted so it didn’t take long for the guy with sunglasses and luggage to appear. He has positioned himself perfectly along one of the stronger shadowed lines so that the image leads right the way to him from foreground the background. The flagpoles and stadium to either side and the overhanging roof of the stadium nicely frame him too.
25mm, ISO 250, f4, 1/80th sec. I cropped this image down, specifically because the original had too much clutter on either side and I wanted the man in the doorway framed by the whole building to be the main focus. I like how there’s a sense of scale here as the man is dwarfed by the building.
25mm, ISO 250, f4, 1/13th sec. Annoyingly the guy in this store clocked me after I’d taken the shot and realised the shutter speed was far too slow, hence him being slightly blurred. The moment was lost then, a shame.
25mm, ISO 400, f4, 1/80th sec. I love he look of wet paving, living in Wales that’s a good thing since it rains an awful lot here. The leading line of the street and the bollards either side keep you focuses through the image, the door of the derelict building at the end of the road is almost lined up perfectly with the wet line in the middle of the pathway.
25mm, ISO 400, f4, 1/160th sec. Another image where I saw what I wanted and then waited for the right person to turn up in the right place. The darkened street either side of the road helps to focus the eye in the middle of the image and the obvious lines leading through to the centre where the woman is crossing ad pushing a pram.
