Nikon D5200, Sigma 10-20mm EX DC, ISO 160, f14, 6 secs.
The shot that broke my ND filter. The long exposure doesn’t really do justice to just how windy that beach was, so windy it blew my quite substantially weighted tripod over and smashed the ND1000 filter fitted to the front of the lens. Luckily the lens was fine, somehow. Lesson learned, use a heftier tripod in strong winds.
A wonderfully moody shot… I’ve just bought a 10-stop filter and will certainly be using my heaviest tripod when I finally get to try it out at the coast!

Thank you very much. I’ve gone an purchased a new one since I smashed the last one up at this spot. Did you go for a particular brand of filter? circular or square type?

It had to be square… I wanted to be able to use it with my film and digital cameras and that means every size between 43 and 67mm. Looked at Lee (both the 100mm and Seven5 systems) but in the end went for the 85mm Formatt-Hitech Firecrest option.
