Chester Zoo On Film

Chester Zoo On Film: Part 5

The fifth and final edition of the Chester Zoo on film series, all taken on my Canon AE-1 Programme with 50mm lens using Agfa Vista Plus 200. I hope you’ve enjoyed these image’s because I’ve certainly enjoyed sharing them, if you’d like to see the other entries click on the quick link on the right hand side of the page.

Chester Zoo 19 Agfa Vista Plus 200.jpg An Asiatic Lion, look how far down it’s stomach the mane goes. This is just before it sprayed in the face of a small child, oh how we all laughed. (more…)

Chester Zoo On Film: Part 4

Part four of my trip to Chester Zoo, a while back now possibly a whole month ago, all taken on Canon AE-1 Programme with 50mm lens and using Agfa Vista Plus 200 film.

Chester Zoo 15 Agfa Vista Plus 200.jpg Who isn’t impressed with size? I certainly am when it comes to a massive snake such as this this Reticulated Python, so big it wouldn’t fit in the frame of this image. (more…)

Chester Zoo On Film: Part 3

Part 3 of Chester Zoo On Film and this time, giraffe’s. Many giraffe’s. As usual all taken on Agfa Vista Plus 200 with my canon AE-1 Programme and 50mm lens.

Chester Zoo 10 Agfa Vista Plus 200.jpg Juvenile Giraffe wandering out into the open while his elders crowd around the doorway. I took this photo, or at least variant’s of it, a few times and it looks much better on film than digital in my opinion. (more…)

Chester Zoo On Film: Part 2

Second part of my visit to Chester Zoo a few weeks ago, all taken on Agfa Vista Plus 200 and using my Canon AE-1 with 50mm lens.

Chester Zoo 6 Agfa Vista Plus 200.jpg Best part about this little guy? The fact I could see him, his mate was on the other side of the enclosure and perfectly camouflaged against those dark green lush leaves. This guy obviously was happier for me to photograph him and had a not changed colour to mix in with his surroundings. (more…)

Chester Zoo On Film: Part 1

I’ve been promising these for a little while, ever since I showed a few of the images I took on digital, and I’ve now got around to getting them developed, scanned in, catalogued etc. So I thought rather than blurt them all out in one go and have them missed over I’d spread the photo’s out over a number of post’s. So This will be the first of a number of post’s covering my trip to Chester Zoo the other week, all were taken with the Canon AE-1 Programme and 50mm 1:1.4 lens on Agfa Vista Plus 200 (the finest film you can buy for a pound in Poundland).

I really enjoyed this place, it’s got the right idea of what a zoo is meant to be, conservation. All the animal’s have huge enclosure’s, in fact some were being moved to even bigger one’s when we were there (hence why I didn’t get to see any Orang-utan’s), and it seemed to have a genuine aesthetic of protecting endangered species rather than just putting animal’s on for a show.
