Back to the landscape photography for this week’s entry into my 52 week photo project, and the theme this time is night time (or Night Owl as it’s stupidly called). One thing sprung to mind as soon as I saw the brief for this week and that was this; light trails. What better opportunity to photograph long exposure light trails that this, and there’s a bridge above a main road within walking distance to my house that I’ve been thinking about doing this from for a while anyway.

Making a return to street photography on film today with another instalment in this series, armed with the trusty Olympus OM-1 and a roll of Fomapan Classic 100, all of these were taken with either a 50mm or 28mm lens.
First up is this shot of a girl, sat alone, headphone on, rolling a cigarette. I like her ridiculously colourful leggings, the way she is lost in her concentration, the slight reflection coming off the damp paving slabs and the contours of the brickwork, cracked, dirty, covered in old cement and repair upon repair. F5.6, 1/125th sec. (more…)
Another selection of street photographs taken with my Olympus OM-D EM-5 and 17mm lens out and about in Cardiff.
First up; Two workmen painting parking lines in one of the parks. I like how the already painted lines frame the guy on the right, boxing him in. ISO 400, f8, 1/160th sec.
Another selection of shots from the streets of Cardiff, all taken with the Olympus OM-D EM-5 and 17mm lens.
First is this man reading the paper, I like the repetition of the windows, the bricks, the paving and all the leading lines they give off as they make there way through the image to the man sat reading the paper. It gives a nice sense of depth and distance. I also like how the bicycle propped up against the telegraph pole is there seemingly at random.
ISO 400, f8, 1/60th sec
So I finally got to take my new Olympus OM-D EM-5 out onto the streets of Cardiff and shoot what I would normally have done on film, don’t worry I still took my trusty OM-1 and will have film shots from that day also. Below is a few examples of the photo’s taken, all with my EM-5 and using the M.Zuiko 17mm 1.8 lens.
First up is this shop-front that looks to be going through the start of a refurbishment, I walked past the window as I entered one of the shopping arcades and the lone man caught my eye. Sat in the shadows, on his own in the huge empty room with light pouring in to the other side and totally engrossed in whatever he’s reading in his lap. ISO 400, f8, 1/25th sec.
Taken on my Nikon FM with 28mm lens on Agfa Vista plus 200 film. f11 1/500th sec. The dried out harbour in St Ives, Cornwall, the half buried chain in the sand leading us off to the brightly coloured boats in the distance, the father and child , hundreds of footprints. This was a good day. (more…)
There was a pro Refugee protest in Cardiff a few weeks ago, all these shots are taken at the event. They probably make it look like there was a lot more people there than there really was, it was a relatively small although not tiny gathering, but it was still nice to see so many people standing up for the rights of the least fortunate of all of humanity.
All shot on Olympus OM-1 with 50mm Olympus OM Auto Zuiko lens on Fomapan Classic 100.
f8 1/125th sec. Nice Anarchist flag in front of the statue of Anuerin Bevan, founder of the NHS. (more…)
All taken with an Olympus OM-1 on Fomapan Classic 100 with either 50mm Olympus OM Auto Zuiko or Vivitar 28mm lens.
28mm, f8, 1/250th sec. I like the contrast of the black wall and bright sunlit street. (more…)
