Street Photography – Olympus OM-D EM-5; Three

Another selection of street photographs taken with my Olympus OM-D EM-5 and 17mm lens out and about in Cardiff.

First up; Two workmen painting parking lines in one of the parks. I like how the already painted lines frame the guy on the right, boxing him in. ISO 400, f8, 1/160th sec.

Street Photography – Olympus OM-D EM-5; Two

Another selection of shots from the streets of Cardiff, all taken with the Olympus OM-D EM-5 and 17mm lens.

First is this man reading the paper, I like the repetition of the windows, the bricks, the paving and all the leading lines they give off as they make there way through the image to the man sat reading the paper. It gives a nice sense of depth and distance. I also like how the bicycle propped up against the telegraph pole is there seemingly at random.

Self

I’m not a huge one for “selfie’s”, in fact ask me my opinion on selfie stick’s and you’ll receive a not very pleasant reply. However This post happens to included a self portrait, see using the correct term there. Also I’d imagine probably a lot of the people who read my blog don’t actually know what I look like, it’s not that often I’m in any of the photographs I post on here. The pose is a little bit “TLR self portrait” I think, although that sounds horribly pretentious so please forgive me if that sounds as bad as I think.

Taken on, well my Olympus OM-D EM-5 with 17mm lens since it’s also a portrait of that as well, ISO 400, f2 1/200th sec.

Landscape Photography Set Up

Following on from my post on my set up for street photography this is going to follow in much the same vein as a “what’s in the bag” for my landscape photography. This is purely digital this time, I wouldn’t really class my Nikon FM as a regular enough part of my current landscape photography to include it here. Once again apologies for the awful quality of the photo, low light, long shutter speed, high ISO and tiredness contributed massively.

Street Photography Set Up

Firstly I must apologise for the truly awful quality of the image here, but….you try to shoot at ISO 1600 for 1/6th sec at f2 in a relatively dark room with an SLR dangling face down off a wobbly tripod and get a usable image. To be honest if this was any post other than a “what’s in the bag” I would’ve spent a lot longer and taken a far sharper, nicer and generally better image, but it isn’t so there we go.

So as the title suggests, and keeping with my new approach to this blog, this is all about what’s used to take the photograph and not the photograph’s themselves. I’ve never really done anything like this before and this is a very rough idea of what I have in my frankly ruined old bag that is NOT designed for photography at all.

Street Photography – Olympus OM-D EM-5

So I finally got to take my new Olympus OM-D EM-5 out onto the streets of Cardiff and shoot what I would normally have done on film, don’t worry I still took my trusty OM-1 and will have film shots from that day also. Below is a few examples of the photo’s taken, all with my EM-5 and using the M.Zuiko 17mm 1.8 lens.

First up is this shop-front that looks to be going through the start of a refurbishment, I walked past the window as I entered one of the shopping arcades and the lone man caught my eye. Sat in the shadows, on his own in the huge empty room with light pouring in to the other side and totally engrossed in whatever he’s reading in his lap. ISO 400, f8, 1/25th sec.

Home

As I said a day or two ago I was going to make a few changes to the type or posts I put out on here, or at least continue what I have been doing recently and amend the general title of this blog from pure film to all types of photography and related things. With that in mind this is going to be a post of several images of my house-mate just generally around the house. All taken on my Olympus OM-D EM-5 with 17mm 1.8 M. Zuiko Digital lens.

New direction…….?

When I first started this blog it was going to be purely a place for me to share the photo’s I’ve taken on film, maybe with a brief description and a way of showing the world something I have found a passion for. Now, that’s probably not what this has developed into, as many people who’ve followed this and read my posts (I counted earlier there’s been 151 of them, that’s an awful lot), a bit more than that. I started putting up some of the photographs I’ve taken with my digital SLR, I started including posts about the lenses and camera’s I use, and thoroughly enjoy using. Recently some of the posts on here have turned into much more than a single image with a brief description and more a montage of related images, almost project-like. And also recently there’s been quite a build up of street photography. (more…)
